This to me is a perfect encapsulation of how much modern journalism is drawn from ‘well, this is my experience, so must be the truth’ rather than doing, er, actual journalism and seeing the world and reality. As you highlight the truth is nothing like some bloke from the Times’ Friday night, but everyone runs with that mythology. I write a lot about young people and the reason it’s breaking through is because I actually talk to them where they are rather than regurgitate what another journalist who maybe has 2 teenagers and believes they represent the whole. Anyway, fab piece! And heartening. Good luck with the book.

This is a very reassuring article. Even if my clubbing days are over, it's essential that there's stuff for more energetic people to do. I'd hate to think of Peckham going to bed early.
